PDFs in Wyatt

Wyatt makes it easy to bring your existing PDF documents into your workspace. Upload a PDF, and Wyatt will automatically extract its text, index it for search, and make the content available to the AI assistant.

Uploading PDFs

There are several ways to get PDFs into your workspace:

  1. Drag and drop — drag a PDF file directly into the sidebar or a folder
  2. Upload button — click Upload in the sidebar or inside a folder, then select your file
  3. From a conversation — attach a PDF to a message and ask the AI to save it to your workspace
Tip

You can upload multiple PDFs at once. Just select several files when uploading, or drag a batch of files in together.

AI-Powered Parsing

When you upload a PDF, Wyatt automatically processes it in the background:

  1. Text extraction — the full text content of the PDF is extracted, including text from multi-column layouts and complex formatting
  2. Search indexing — the extracted text is indexed so you can find the PDF (and specific content within it) using workspace search
  3. AI access — the content becomes available to the AI assistant, so you can ask questions about your PDFs in conversations

This means that even if a PDF was created by someone else or exported from another tool, the AI can read and reason about its contents.

Viewing PDFs

Click on any PDF in your workspace to open the built-in viewer. The viewer lets you:

  • Scroll through pages — navigate the full document without leaving Wyatt
  • Zoom in and out — adjust the view for comfortable reading
  • View alongside conversations — open a PDF and a conversation side by side to ask the AI questions about it

Searching PDF Content

Because Wyatt indexes the extracted text from every PDF, you can search for content inside your PDFs just like you search for anything else:

  • Command Palette (Cmd+K) — type a keyword or phrase to find matching PDFs
  • AI Conversations — ask the AI something like "What does the Q3 report say about customer retention?" and it will search your PDFs for relevant information
  • Semantic search — Wyatt's search understands meaning, not just keywords, so searching for "revenue growth" will also find passages about "sales increase"
Note

Scanned PDFs that contain only images (no selectable text) may have limited text extraction. For best results, upload PDFs that have selectable text content.

Organizing PDFs

PDFs are workspace items just like documents and databases. You can:

  • Move PDFs into folders for organization
  • Pin important PDFs for quick access
  • Reference PDFs by name in conversations
