ClickUp Brain vs Asana Intelligence: What You'll Actually Pay

Search still says “Asana Intelligence.” Asana’s current AI product is AI Studio plus Smart chat on paid plans. ClickUp’s is ClickUp Brain. Both sit on top of a task tracker. Both are priced so the AI line is easy to underestimate.

This is a current look at those public pages as of 14 August 2026. Asana’s marketing site does not print a single headline seat price — it sends you through a calculator. ClickUp does print Brain prices. Do not invent the other side of the table.

What you are actually buying

ClickUp Brain is an AI add-on on top of ClickUp. The Brain pricing page lists two paid rungs:

Free Forever includes a trial of the assistant. Brain AI is the working assistant, writing, project summaries, and a standard slice of agents and AI fields. Everything AI is the unlimited rung: notetaker, enterprise search, talk-to-text, image gen, and higher agent limits.

Optional extras on the same page: AI Super Credits at $10 per 10,000 credits; Talk to Text at $9 / user / month; AI Notetaker from $12 for 60 hours / month. The notetaker is not bundled on Brain AI — the comparison table marks it as a trial there and unlimited on Everything AI.

Asana does not sell a similarly named “Intelligence” SKU. Paid Asana plans include AI Studio Basic with a monthly credit pool per billing account, not per user:

• Starter — 50,000 credits / account / month
• Advanced — 75,000 credits / account / month
• Enterprise — 200,000 credits / account / month (from Asana’s plan comparison on asana.com/pricing)

When the pool runs out, Asana sells extra credit packs (Plus / Pro in their help center). Smart chat is part of paid Asana, not a second product you add like Brain.

That is the structural difference. ClickUp meters AI as a per-user subscription. Asana meters AI as a shared credit bucket on the plan you already bought.

Seat math vs credit math

ClickUp’s Brain page prices per user. Budget it like you budget ClickUp seats: everyone on the workspace is the number that matters, not “how many people will type at the assistant.” Confirm the current checkout — ClickUp has historically billed AI across members — but the published rate is already per user / month.

Asana’s 50k / 75k credits are per billing account. Ten light users can share Starter’s pool. Two people running heavy AI Studio workflows can burn Advanced’s 75k without anyone else touching it. The surprise is not a doubled seat. It is a silent credit cap in week three.

Neither page is a full bill. You still pay for ClickUp or Asana itself. Brain $9 is on top of ClickUp. AI Studio Basic is included in Starter / Advanced / Enterprise, so the Asana seat is the plan price from their calculator, not $0 + credits.

A 10-person team that wants the assistant

Ignore the underlying tracker for a moment and look only at the AI line ClickUp publishes.

Ten people on Brain AI is $1,080 / year before ClickUp itself, Super Credits, or the notetaker. Everything AI at $28 is $3,360 / year for the AI line alone.

Asana will not let you quote a matching AI add-on, because there isn’t one. You pay Starter or Advanced (check asana.com/pricing for your headcount) and you live inside the credit pool until you buy packs.

What both still leave on the table

ClickUp is strong at tasks, views, and stacking AI onto those tasks. Asana is strong at work graph, portfolios, and workload. The leftover job is the same one that shows up in every tracker:

The brief is a Google doc. The decision is in a Slack thread. The PDF lives in Drive. The assistant in the tracker can summarize the tasks it can see. It cannot cite the spec unless that spec is also in ClickUp or Asana.

That is why “Brain vs Intelligence” is a real query and still a partial one. You are comparing how two trackers charge for a chat box over tasks. You are not comparing a system of record for the writing that explains the tasks.
